Egypt's Comprehensive Health Insurance System to cover all governorates in 10 yrs

CAIRO - 14 December 2022: Under the leadership of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the state has took firm steps to change and improve the health system, by rehabilitating and developing the health infrastructure to keep pace with the development in the performance of the health service.
 
This has been done through the implementation of the new comprehensive health insurance system, which is the largest national project for health reform in Egypt, and launching a package of health reforms to accelerate the provision of service to the citizens. 
 
According to what the Ministry of Health previously confirmed, more than 15 health initiatives have been launched for different age groups, all of which provide free services to citizens in various governorates.
 
Within the context of the political leadership’s keenness on the right of every Egyptian citizen to obtain distinguished and fair health care.
 
More than 2.7 million citizens have been fully registered electronically in the comprehensive health insurance system in the first governorates to implement the system, in Port Said, Luxor, Ismailia, where more than 15 million medical services are provided through the authority's health facilities to beneficiaries in those governorates, and 260 thousand major surgeries have been performed within the system since its inception.
 
The government has worked to pay attention to the comprehensive health insurance system, as it is an essential pillar of improving the level of quality of services provided to citizens through the health sector, and the system is scheduled to cover the governorates of the republic within 10 years. 
 
Dr. Muhammad Al-Wahsh, Undersecretary of the Health Committee in the House of Representatives, considered that the health insurance system was able to win international acclaim for its project success, which will make a breakthrough in the health care file for Egyptians, and change their reality to a better healthy life, as it is a basic pillar of improving the quality of services provided to citizens.
 
He explained that there are a number of reasons that led to the success of applying the health insurance experiment in Egypt, foremost of which is the personal follow-up of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to this experiment and the provision of all kinds of support for it.
 
He said that the medical service provided in the facilities of the Public Authority for Health Care is something to be proud of, according to prior international acclaim for the level of medical services provided under the umbrella of comprehensive health insurance, in addition to the automation systems and digital transformation of services that facilitated citizens’ access to health services for the governorates of comprehensive health insurance and the presence of Positive feedback from beneficiaries.
 
He pointed out that comprehensive health insurance in Egypt keeps pace with international standards, and it is a unique experience that has no equal, as it is a restructuring of the health system, in addition to that it enjoys great support from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who directed that the implementation of this system be completed in 10 years instead of 15 years.
 
Representative Hassan Ammar, a member of the House of Representatives, considered that the process of health reform and the improvement of the treatment system is proceeding at a steady pace despite all the global challenges that necessitated the rearrangement of spending priorities.
 
The member of the House of Representatives indicated that this system, which was launched in Port Said and succeeded in implementing it, will provide distinguished care for Egyptians, by spreading it in various governorates of the Republic within 10 years, in a way that meets the principles and goals of sustainable health development for Egypt's Vision 2030.
 
He stressed that Egypt has taken since 2014, a set of measures and launched a number of health initiatives to advance the system, to enhance the health of Egyptians of all age groups, including early detection of chronic diseases and the elimination of the C virus.
