CAIRO - 13 December 2022: The Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) prepared a draft code for safe media coverage of children.

The draft code of controls and ethics for safe media for children obligated the establishment of mechanisms to ensure the participation of children in the various stages of creating and evaluating the content directed to them.

The code is clearly suitable for different age stages.

The code stressed that when publishing or broadcasting media and press coverage of childhood news, privacy and objectivity must be adhered to, and children must be given their rights to privacy, dignity and freedom of expression.

The code also highlighted that care should be taken to present children’s opinions and viewpoints on issues of concern to them, and not to ask unclear or misleading questions to the child.

The code prohibits violating the privacy of children who use websites, apps, and online platforms by using cookies, and any other similar tools to collect online information about children to target them with advertisements or commercial content.
