CAIRO – 12 December 2022: Egypt’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said Monday that Egypt's population is expected to reach 160 million by 2050.

In a report published by IDSC entitled: “The World in 2050... What Will It Look Like?”, the Center explained that the world population by 2050 is expected to reach about 9.74 billion people, and it is estimated that it will reach more than 10 billion people by the twenty-second century.

Last November, Egypt's internal population has reached 104,250,000 million people, with an increase of 250,000 people within only 56 days, said Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The population had recorded 104 million people domestically on the 1st of October of this year, the CAPMAS added.

Egypt’s census ranks first in the Arab world, third in Africa, and fourteenth in the world, the CAPMAS continued.

The population in the capital, Cairo, hit 10.2 million people, while it reached 9.4 million people in Giza, the statement said.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi warned in a speech on December 1, that overpopulation “will eat away at the country”.

He added during the inauguration ceremony of New Mansoura City, that “if the population continues to grow at this rate, the damage will not be reversible.”
