CAIRO – 12 December 2022: The Ministry of Health and Population announced Monday that one of the surroundings of the Mpox case identified on Thursday had been infected.

The patient is aged 34, and is currently receiving treatment at hospital. The original patient is an Egyptian resident of a European country, and was in a visit to Egypt when he got diagnosed.

The ministry confirmed Thursday detecting the second positive case of Mpox infection in the country for a patient, aged 39 years.

Precautionary measures have been taken to ensure that the patient, his relatives and other individuals, who have had close contact with the case prior to confirmation of its infection, do not contact anyone.

The statement said the patient is in stable condition and is receiving all needed medical care. It is noted that the first case in Egypt appeared in September, and it was also an Egyptian residing in a European country.
