CAIRO –16 July 2017: Ten suspects have been arrested on Sunday over the clashes that broke out between security forces and citizens of the Warraq district, northern Giza, which left one policeman killed and 31 others injured, said the Ministry of Interior in a statement.

The Giza Security Directorate launched a campaign Sunday to remove buildings on the Nile in the Warraq district. The clashes erupted after the local residents refused demolishing the “illegal” houses.

The Ministry of Interior has issued a decision to demolish about 700 “illegal” houses.
The ministry said in a statement that when the security forces carried out the decision, people opened birdshot at the policemen, who in response threw tear gas bombs to disperse the crowd.

The Ministry of Interior calls for compliance with the law and the preservation of the public security and the rights of the state to recover its lands and legalize the situation, the statement read.
