Divorce rate in Egypt records 25 in every 100 cases: Minister

CAIRO – 5 December 2022: Divorce rate in Egypt reached 25 out of every 100 cases, recording the highest divorce rate is among those who are aged between 20 to 30 years, said Nevine Kabbaj, Minister of Solidarity, in her statement before the House of Representatives on Monday.
 
 
She added that the ministry is studying to increase the alimony fund to the divorcees to EGP 1,000 instead of EGP 500, in addition to advanced services. 
 
 
The divorce rate in Egypt has increased by about 32,000 during the year 2021, said Dr. Hussein Abdel Aziz, advisor to the head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics on July 6, 2022.
 
 
He added that the divorce rates are high, but not as dangerous as people imagine, according to his statements to a TV show on DMC TV channel.  
 
 
In a phone call with Sada El Balad's Salet el Tahrir talk show on May 10, 202, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed on the importance of resolving all family issues and problems inside the society. He added that the family issues pose a serious threat to the cohesion and future of our society.
 
 
The divorce rate has sharply increased in Egypt over the past 20 years, the president said, adding that it is of great importance to draft a law that resolves family issues as soon as possible.
