CAIRO – 27 November 2022: Speaker of the Egyptian Senate Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek issued a statement Sunday in response to a resolution issued by the European Parliament on human rights on November 24.

Chancellor Abdel Razek expressed "discontent" with the resolution saying that "the European Parliament's attitude is not new, as it has been adopting – over the past few years - stances and policies that are rooted in fragile wrong concepts."

The Egyptian Senate's Speaker accused the European Parliament of "attempting to pretend it possesses the authority to evaluate and question non-member states, which contradicts internationals rules and norms." He added that such policies are a "European imperial legacy and reflect nothing but a concealed desire to promote a specific culture."

Abdel Razek pointed out that no free country, especially Egypt, would accept those attempts. He further clarified that Egypt had launched in April the National Dialogue to create a platform for all social segments to discuss various issues and present visions.

The Senate Speaker similarly underlined the recent re-activation of the Presidential Pardon Committee, which played a major role in the release of dozens of convicts.

Moreover, the chancellor underlined that Egypt hosts millions of refugees, who are not confined in camps, and that the country deploys efforts to enhance the living conditions of people through a number of initiatives. The most prominent of which are Decent Life, and 100 Million Healthy Lives.
