CAIRO – 25 November 2022: Egypt’s First Lady Entissar Amer marked on Friday the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25 November.

“Egypt moves steadily to empower women as a main partner for building the nation,” Amer said in a social media post.

She hailed women as “the protective shield that safeguards the nation and its future.”

Marking the day, Amer said “we are moving together towards preserving women's rights and eliminating violence against them”.

Egypt has worked over the past years to empower women and ensure that they are involved in the decision-making process, including by increasing the number of women holding ministerial portfolios and Parliamentary seats.

Also, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi appointed almost 100 female members of the State Lawsuits Authority and the Administrative Prosecution in the State Council last year.

This comes only few months after he gave women the right to work at the Public Prosecution and State Council for the first time in Egypt’s history.
