MERSA MATROUH - Egypt - 16 July: Matrouh governor Maj. Gen. Alaa Abu Zeid met on Sunday with Indian Ambassador in Cairo Sanjay Bhattacharyya on the inauguration of a lighting project in "Agayone" village, 60 kilometers east of Mersa Matrouh, Sunday.

The project had been implemented under an agreement between Cairo and New Delhi, and with an Indian grant.

Abu Zeid thanked Bhattacharyya for India's efforts to light the village, located near the border with Libya, using solar energy.

The Indian government had also helped train workers to maintain and install solar energy systems.

Bhattacharyya said the project is meant to serve residents of that remote area, especially that electricity is generated from solar energy without any connection to the power grid.

The project secures 8.8 kilowatts of electricity, which is enough to light the whole village, the diplomat noted.
