CAIRO – 4 November 2022: German Ambassador to Cairo Frank Hartmann has urged all parties to work on making the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP27) in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh a success.

In a video on Twitter a few days ahead of the conference, Hartmann said the COP27 would be a tremendous conference “but we have to make it a success”.

“We have suffered from climate change all over the world. Here in Egypt, we had a hail storm in the desert couple of days ago,” he said.

“If we do not act now, we will miss a chance in history. We have to act now,” the ambassador stressed.

More than 100 heads of state and governments will attend the COP27 set to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh from 6 to 18 November.

A total of 40,000 participants are expected to attend Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Implementation Summit, thematic days, flagship initiatives, and Green Zone activities, and are set to engage with climate and other overlapping global challenges.

Egypt is preparing to host the climate summit with a focus to urge developed countries to fulfill their climate commitments and turn climate pledges into action in all fields of climate action.

COP27 focuses on providing solutions that make climate action help solving community problems and crises, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt Mahmoud Mohieldin said on Sunday.

Mohieldin stated that the conference aims to implement climate action without ignoring the current crises in the world such as the rise of fuel and food prices, and the increase of poverty rates, especially after COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine.
