High-level American delegation to participate at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh

CAIRO – 3 November 2022: A high-level American delegation is expected to participate at Egypt’s hosted UN Climate Conference (COP27), due to this month.

According to the US department of state, the delegation led by Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry will visit Egypt from November 6-18, 2022.

The statement added that senior U.S. officials from over 16 agencies and organizations will travel to Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, to advance climate ambition and ensure a strong outcome at the 2022 UN Climate Conference (COP27).

The delegation expected to include: “Alice Albright, CEO, Millennium Challenge Corporation, Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, Brian Deese, Director, National Economic Council, Enoh Ebong, Director, U.S. Trade and Development Agency, Jennifer Granholm, Secretary of Energy, Reta Jo Lewis, President & Chair, Export-Import Bank of the United States Brenda Mallory, Chair, Council on Environmental Quality, Scott Nathan, CEO, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, John Podesta, Senior Advisor to the President for Clean Energy Innovation and Implementation, Samantha Power, Administrator, U.S. Agency for International Development, Michael Regan, Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Rick Spinrad, Administrator, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor, Tom Vilsack, Secretary of Agriculture and Ali Zaidi, White House National Climate Advisor.”

More than 100 heads of state and governments will attend the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) set to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh.

The heads of state and government will deliver their national statements on November 7 and 8 at the Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Implementation Summit, one day after the kick-off of the two-week conference. On the opening day, Egyptian Foreign Minister and COP27 President-Designate Sameh Shoukry will be officially elected as the President of the Conference of the Parities' 27th session.

A total of 40,000 participants are expected to attend Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Implementation Summit, thematic days, flagship initiatives, and Green Zone activities, and are set to engage with climate and other overlapping global challenges.

Shoukry stated that Egypt is ready to host the world leaders, delegates and climate stakeholders under the slogan "Together for Implementation".
