CAIRO – 16 July 2017: Three non-governmental organizations have been shut down due to their strong affiliation with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood (MB), Hussien Al-Baz, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Qena Governorate said on Sunday.

The closures come because of a previous court verdict that banned the group’s activities in September 2013 and formed a committee to confiscate the assets and property of the organization and its members.

In addition, the board of directors for 13 organizations were replaced with other councils that do not have any party or political activity, Baz explained.

He added that these councils will work under the supervision of a committee formed by the ministry in Qena, to continue delivering social services to low-income citizen.

New activities would be applied these organizations to provide improvements for the social status of the neediest families, including children and low-income citizens, Baz noted.

Since the ouster of the Brotherhood in 2013, and their label as a terrorist group, several organizations have closed. In 2015, over 500 organizations were shutdown.
