CAIRO – 18 October 2022: The Public Prosecution said on Tuesday that it is interrogating a man who strangled his fiancée, Kholoud El-Sayed, to death in Egypt’s Port Said.

One of Sayed’s neighbors saw the suspect while entering the victim’s house through the window, the prosecution said in a statement.

Surveillance cameras also spotted the man since leaving his work early on the day of the crime until reaching the building where Sayed lived and eventually running out from it, the prosecution added.

The victim’s colleagues said the suspect assaulted Sayed before the day of the crime and that she resigned from work to avoid him, the statement noted.

Similar incidents took place over the past months in Egypt of young men killing their female colleagues due to alleged love. The incidents, which stirred public uproar, ended up by death sentences against the killers over premeditated murder.

Earlier this month, a court in northern Egypt’s Sharkia sentenced Islam Mohamed, the murderer of 22-year-old student Salma Bahgat, to death.

In July, Mansoura Criminal Court sentenced Mohamed Adel, the murderer of Mansoura University student Nayera Ashraf to death. Adel was filmed by surveillance cameras while brutally stabbing and slaughtering the 21-year-old girl.
