80% of Egyptian students in Ukraine returned home: Official

CAIRO - 17 October 2022: Egyptian Assistant Minister of Immigration for Communities Affairs, Ambassador Amr Abbas confirmed that 80 percent of the Egyptian students in Ukraine have returned home, or moved to neighboring countries to accompany their families or relatives, and the rest is still there, and there is nothing to impede their return to Egypt.
 
Ambassador Amr Abbas added, in a telephone interview with CBC channel, that they have been following up on the status of Egyptians in Ukraine since the outbreak of military operations there last February. 
 
According to Abbas, the follow-up on the situation continues as safety crossings were opened to help Egyptian students in Ukraine return home safely. He added that procedures of assisting Egyptian students to enroll in Egyptian universities has been concluded.
 
"The issue of Egyptian students in Ukraine is almost completely finished, and with the recent escalation, the majority are moving to the western region of Ukraine, and the problem is that the bombing does not distinguish and the situation is not safe," he added, ensuring that there are conserted efforts to help in the return of Egyptian students.
