CAIRO - 8 October 2022: President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi congratulated Egyptians and the Arab World on Saturday on the occasion of Mawlid Al-Nabi anniversary (Prophet Muhammad's birthday).

"Let us make this virtuous memory a beacon, an approach, and a model that strengthens our determination and will in building our lives and future,” Sisi said in a social media post.

“On that day, the light of eternal prophecy shone over all of humanity and removed the clouds of ignorance and delusions,” the president said, praising Prophet Muhammad.

The Mawlid is commemorated in Rabi' al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.

People in some Muslim countries including Egypt celebrate the occasion by buying different kinds of sweets.

Egyptians celebrate the Mawlid on Saturday this year, which is a paid holiday for the public and private sectors.

On Thursday, Egyptians also took the day off on the occasion of the Sixth of October 1973 War, which marked the Egyptian army’s victory in the war against Israel in Sinai.

In a ceremony organized on Wednesday by Awqaf Ministry to celebrate Mawlid, Sisi underlined the need of following the role model of Prophet Muhammad in enduring hardships, challenges and facing adversity with determination, will and patience.

Sisi said Prophet Muhamamd is a role model for humanity, adding that his life was dominated by a superior morality.

President Sisi, meanwhile, greeted people of Egypt and all the Arab and Muslim peoples on Mawlid, urging the Egyptians to follow the example of Prophet Muhammad.
