Foreign Ministry signs MoU on Egypt's joining SCO

CAIRO – 14 September 2022: Egypt’s Foreign Ministry announced a memorandum of understanding signed on Egypt's joining of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as a "dialogue partner" in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent Wednesday.

The approval of Egypt's membership as a "dialogue partner" preceded a summit of heads of state and governments which are members of the organization, slated for Friday in Samarkand city in Uzbekistan, the ministry added in a press release.

The ministry said that Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs Ambassador Hamdi Loza and the SCO's Secretary General Zhang Ming co-signed the memorandum, representing Egypt and the organization respectively.

Loza said during talks with Ming that the move is an important step toward the promotion of ties with the organization's member countries in the different domains, along with supporting regional security and stability.

For his part, Ming welcomed Egypt's accession to the organization as a "dialogue partner", saying he is looking forward to more fruitful cooperation in the coming phase.
