CAIRO - 14 September 2022: The Egyptian state seeks to increase production, achieve food security, and increase the strategic stock of strategic goods, said Engineer Abdel Moneim Khalil, the head of the Internal Trade Sector at the Ministry of Supply.
 
Engineer Khalil revealed the details of the low price of a ton of sugar by 600 pounds, explaining that this is because the political leadership is keen to increase Inventory, showroom availability and subsequent price drop.
 
Abdel Moneim Khalil added, in statements to a TV show, that self-sufficiency in sugar has reached 90%, pointing out that sugar prices will not rise again during the coming period. 
 
He continued that some commodities will witness a decrease in prices in the coming days, pointing out that price of rice have declined during the current period.
 
He stressed that the prices of bread will not be affected, stressing that the state has succeeded in managing the food security file during the past years.
 
In turn, Dr. Muhammad Al-Qarsh, a spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, said that the cotton system in Egypt has been fully developed; to benefit the Egyptian farmer; Thus, the system of bidding in the sale was applied from last year.
 
Al-Qarsh added that the beginning of the first auction, during the current season, witnessed average prices between 5100 pounds and 5155 pounds per kantar, which made the presence of a major boom in cotton prices.
 
The agriculture spokesman added that the cultivation of 360,000 feddans of cotton has been reached this year, and the cotton waste is being reused again, and this cultivation is important and promising, pointing out that the ministry continues to improve the cotton strains, and this year will witness a good cotton yield. There will be more expansions of this crop in the coming years.
 
Dr. Muhammad Al-Qarsh explained that the arrival of cotton prices to this price; Emphasizes the state's efforts to develop the spinning and weaving system; Which depends on Egyptian cotton and buys it for its products, pointing out that the cotton crop is an important strategic crop, and the state is seeking to expand its cultivation.
 
A spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that there has been a law on contract farming and an executive regulation for it. This ensures transactions between the farmer and the merchant, pointing out that the state sometimes intervenes to buy some strategic crops.
 
Engineer Magdy Zaher, one of the officials of the Fisheries Authority participating in the Manzala Lake development project, confirmed that the previous capabilities available to Lake Manzala were weak and did not allow the development that is taking place now in the lake, explaining that the workers and fishermen were waiting only for the will to develop Lake Manzala after the directive of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
 
Engineer Magdy Zaher added that the Manzala Lake will produce 120,000 tons of fish per year, pointing out that the Manzala Lake previously produced 45,000 fish. 
 
He continued: "Lake El-Manzala is open for fishing under special controls and links after cleaning the water from pollution by 80%, and the situation is now different."
