CAIRO – 13 September 2022:  British ambassador to Cairo, Gareth Bailey, said that the late British Queen Elizabeth II was the most devoted British government employee, and its greatest diplomat.

In a message of condolence broadcast to the ambassador via his accounts on various social networking sites, he added that the moment of the death of Her Majesty the Queen is a moment of great sadness for the United Kingdom and many others around the world.

He continued, "She has ruled for longer than any British monarch in history as she served her country with honor and dignity for more than 70 years. She will live on in our memories and we will never forget her."

The British ambassador explained that the UK is now in a period of official mourning which will continue until Her Majesty's funeral on 19 September.

He added, "I am very grateful for the messages of condolence we have already received, including sincere words from His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and messages from many Egyptians of all ages and from different backgrounds."

Bailey also noted that the royal family opened a book of condolences online, and added, "But if you are thinking of offering condolences in person at the embassy through our condolence book, you will find details on how to do it on our social media."

The British ambassador to Cairo concluded his message by saying: "There is no better honor for Her Majesty the Queen than to honor her legacy with dedication, as we are now honored to serve His Majesty King Charles III."
