Egypt’s Grand Imam of Al Azhar: Queen Elizabeth II was a unique head of state who dedicated her life to serving her nation

CAIRO – 9 September 2022: Egyptian Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed El Tayeb mourned the death of Queen Elizabeth II, saying that she is a unique head of state who dedicated her life to serving her nation.

“I offer my deepest condolences to His Majesty King Charles, the Royal family, and the British people on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty was such a unique, committed, and deeply respected Head of State. She dedicated her life to serving her nation and people,” Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayeb took to Twitter.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 at the Buckingham Palace on Thursday after it was announced on the same day that the Queen was under the medical supervision.

Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayyib and Queen Elizabeth had attended an honest and hope-filled interfaith dialogue during the First Emerging Peacemakers Forum  in July 2018 in London. During her meeting with the Grand Imam, the Queen had indicated that the world strongly relies on religious leaders to enhance world peace and stability.

“Al-Azhar opens new channels of dialogue with all parties to instill the values of peace and coexistence. The relationship between Al-Azhar and Canterbury gives an example of cooperation between the leaders and followers of religions,” the Grand Imam said according to the press release.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi voiced his sincere condolences in the name of Egypt and its people to the royal family, the British government and people over the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch of Britain, at the age of 96.

Posting on his official Facebook page on Thursday, Sisi said "I offer my sincere condolences, in my name and on behalf of the Egyptian people, to the royal family, the UK government and people on the death of Queen Elizabeth II that ruled her country for long decades with complete wisdom."

Also, Egypt’s First Lady Entessar El Sisi mourned, on Thursday the death of Queen Elizabeth II. “It is with great sadness and sorrow that I mourn Queen Elizabeth II. She was a great lady, and a symbol of giving, who devoted her life to serving her country and her nation, with unparalleled dedication and sincerity." The first lady wrote on her Facebook page.

She added: “My sincere condolences to the British people."
