Egypt keen to work with Algeria to ensure Arab summit success in enhancing efforts to tackle challenges: Sisi

CAIRO – 6 September 2022: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has affirmed Egypt’s keenness to work along with Algeria to ensure the success of the Arab League summit in Algeria in enhancing joint Arab work to tackle the huge challenges facing the Arab world.

Receiving Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra in Cairo on Tuesday, Sisi affirmed that success of the upcoming summit in November aims at restoring the unity of the Arab world in a way that supports the concept of the national state and preserve the resources of the Arab peoples.

Lamamra handed Sisi a message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune inviting him to partake in the Arab League Summit, Egypt’s Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

The Algerian FM stressed his country’s keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation with Egypt in all fields.

Sisi, for his part, affirmed Egypt’s appreciation of the historic, firm, and special relations with Algeria on the official and popular levels.

The Egyptian president also expressed keenness to enhance cooperation fields with Algeria during the coming period in all fields.

Sisi requested that Lamamra conveys his greetings to his brother President Tebboune, welcoming the Algerian president’s invitation to attend the Arab summit.

The meeting also discussed a number of regional issues of mutual concern on the Arab level, especially the situations in Syria, Libya, and Iraq.

The two sides agreed on the importance of intensifying coordination to work on restoring regional security, stability, and peace.

On 1-2 November, the Arab League will be holding its first annual summit in Algeria in three years after being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Arab League held its last summit in Tunisia’s capital, Tunis, in March 2019.
