CAIRO – 23 August 2022: The Ministry of Local Development indicated in a press statement Tuesday that between March 31 and August 17, municipal authorities sold subsidized food products at LE82 million.

 

The ministry clarified that 37 kinds of food were sold at 17 governorates, and that those included read meat, pourtly, fish, legumes, dates, peanuts, rice, pasta, and others.

 

The statement added that the sales of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr, and Eid Al Adha accounted for LE33.7 million of the sales achieved.

 

he Egyptian Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) denied in July the news that circulated on social media on the government's intention to cancel bread subsidies for ration card holders.

 

IDSC stated that it had contacted the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, which denied the news, stressing that there was no truth to the government's intention to cancel bread subsidies for the holders of ration cards.

 

It added that the ministry continues to offer subsidized loaves of bread on ration cards for five piasters without any increase.

 

It pointed out to the increase in bread subsidies in the budget for the new fiscal year 2022-2023 to more than LE 22 billion, pointing out that the number of those entitled to bread subsidies has reached about 71 million citizens so far.

 

The IDSC stressed that there are continuous monitoring campaigns on all bakeries in the various governorates of the Republic to identify how easy it is for the citizen to obtain his full share of subsidized bread according to the prices set by the ministry.
