Egypt condemns deadly terrorist attack on hotel in Somalia’s Mogadishu

CAIRO – 20 August 2022: Egypt strongly condemned on Saturday the terrorist attack that targeted a hotel in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, killing and injuring a number of innocent people.

In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said people and government of Egypt extend their sincere condolences to the sisterly Somalia and the relatives of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

“Egypt also affirms full solidarity with sisterly Somalia in this painful incident, affirming its categorical rejection of all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism,” the ministry added.

Gunmen stormed a hotel in the Somali capital on Friday evening, killing 20 people and injuring 40 others, according to the Somali police.

The Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group Al-Shabaab, notorious for carrying out terrorist attacks in Somalia and East Africa, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.
