CAIRO – 17 August 2022: Minister of Transport kamel al-Wazir stated Tuesday in a phone-in that 11 senior officials at the National Railways Authority had been referred to the Military Prosecution for embezzling a signaling control box worth $50,000, along with four merchants who were also implicated in the case.

 

The minister pointed out that all the defendants stood a trial before a military court, and that each of them was handed a sentence of 15 years in prison. He added that other corruption cases unfolded among the authority's workers in various governorates, and that they are being investigated by the Military Prosecution.

 

The Egyptian Railways Authority is implementing major projects to modernize signaling systems along railway lines from "Alexandria to Luxor", at a cost of L.E. 12 billion.

7- The underway projects seek to modernize signaling systems on railways with a total length of 1900 km, at a cost of 50 billion pounds.

 

8- The projects are expected to be completed by the end of the year 2024.
