Egypt hands India COP27 invitation

CAIRO – 11 August 2022: Ambassador of Egypt to India Wael Hamed, handed the Indian Minister for External Affairs Vellamvelly Muraleedharan, President Abdel Fattah al Sisi invitation for the Indian Prime Minster Narendra Modi to participate in the UN Climate Change Conference [COP27] expected in November at Sharm al Sheikh.

The Egyptian ambassador expressed Egypt's aspiration for India's participation in view of the role it plays in the global climate change agenda and supporting developing countries to confront the repercussions of climate change, through a number of global initiatives.

During the meeting, the two officials discussed boosting bilateral relations, especially in the fields of trade and investment, coinciding with the two friendly countries' celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them in August 1947.

The Egyptian ambassador also reviewed Cairo's vision regarding a number of regional issues of interest to the two countries, and Egypt's efforts to spread peace and maintain security and stability in the Middle East.

The Indian Minister expressed his country's appreciation for the recent Egyptian mediation that succeeded in reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of continuing efforts aimed at reviving the peace process.
