CAIRO – 10 August 2022: The Ministry of Health and Population announced Wednesday that it is launching 52 medical caravans nationwide on August 11, and that the work of those will continue until August 20.

The specializations offered through those caravans are gastroenterology, pediatrics, otolaryngology, orthopedics, surgery, ophthalmology, dentistry, cardiology, dermatology, gynecology and family planning. They are also equipped with scanning devices and laboratories.

The ministry declared in July that women turned up to 771 caravans offering birth control, and held a total of 13,745 visits to mobile clinics. The ministry noted that 185,942 of those women are first-timers in seeking such free-of-charge birth control services.

It had also announced earlier operating 36 medical caravans to remote and low-income areas on May 4-12, within Decent Life initiative.

In a different context, the ministry revealed Tuesday the purchase of 12 scooter ambulances in order to better serve patients living in very narrow streets, so as the paramedic would reach them fast, providing first aid, and then, transport them to the vehicle.

The ministry noted in the press statement that the scooters are environment-friendly, as they are electric, and that they can cross a distance of 100 kilometers per charge. Yet, the dates of delivery and entering service have not been announced yet.
