CAIRO – 8 August 2022: Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Aty declared Monday that 2,803 kilometers of canals in Upper Egypt had been lined at a budget of LE 10.1 billion.

The minister added that the lining of 1,776 kilometers of canals in Delta is underway, and the work is carried out at LE 6.4 billion in Giza, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Menya, Asyut, Sohag, Qena, and Aswan.

Abdel Aty also announced that tenders will be invited soon for private firms to implement the lining of 1,216 kilometers of canals at a cost of LE 4 billion.

The project, launched by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, aims to rehabilitate canals with a total length of 20,000 kilometers at a cost of L.E. 80 billion by mid-2024.
