“Egypt is practicing its ‘traditional leadership role’ in crises and only aims to maintain calm, stability and protect peace.” The source added.

Cairo called on all parties to exercise self-restraint in order to control the situation in Gaza Strip and to prevent it from developing.

In a brief statement for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, it was stated that “Egypt is conducting intensive contacts around the clock in order to contain and calm down the situation in Gaza to save people’s lives.”

However, at least 10 Palestinians were killed, including a 5-year-old girl, and up to 70 others wounded on Friday in a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting several areas across the Gaza Strip.

Israeli warplanes attacked an apartment in the Palestine Tower building in Al-Rimal neighborhood, killing Taysir Mohammad Jaabari and wounding many others, WAFA news agency reported.

Warplanes also attacked a vehicle in the Shejaeya neighborhood, killing 5-year-old Alaa Qaddum and a 23-year-old young woman.

Several other Palestinians, including children, were also injured in an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Fakhari neighborhood in Khan Yunis, south of the Strip.

Warplanes also attacked targets in the town of Beit Lahia, north of the Strip, as well as in Khan Yunis in the south of the enclave.

The Israeli artillery also attacked targets in the north and east of the Strip, causing physical damages.

Israeli armored tanks further attacked targets near the towns of Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun in the north of the Strip, causing significant damage to property but no casualties.

Later on Friday, the Israeli forces arrested more than 19 Palestinians according to IDF Spokesperson Avichay Adraee.
