Egypt's President Sisi congratulates Macron on French national day

CAIRO – 18 July 2022: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi sent a cable of congratulations to his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, on the occasion of France’s national day.

Sisi also dispatched Presidential Secretary Ahmed El-Ansary to the French Embassy in Cairo to extend congratulations on this occasion, state’s news agency MENA reported.

The French national day, also known as Bastille Day, is celebrated every year on 14 July. The day signals the start of the French Revolution and major political and social change in France.

Egypt and France are bound by strong relations in various fields, including at the political, economic, social, military, and cultural levels.

In May, Sisi held a phone call with Macron to congratulate him on winning France's presidential election.

President Sisi asserted that Egypt attaches special importance to bolstering strategic cooperation relations with France at all fronts.

Sisi also affirmed keenness for maximizing coordination and consultation with the French side regarding political, security, military and economic issues of common interest with the aim of maintaining security and stability in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and African regions.

Meanwhile, Macron also affirmed keenness on enhancing positive and constructive interaction with Sisi to continue consultation and coordination regarding files of common interest as well as the latest regional and international developments.

Macron also voiced the French administration's commitment to pursue enhancing joint cooperation with Egypt in all fields and supporting the president's strenuous efforts to achieve comprehensive development.

This comes along with backing the role played by Egypt to maintain peace, security and stability at the regional and international levels.

The two presidents' conversation covered a set of bilateral issues as they agreed on further supporting the strategic relations between them at all levels.

The two presidents also exchanged viewpoints regarding regional and international issues especially the situation in Ukraine as well as means of buttressing cooperation and coordination ahead of Egypt's hosting of the UN Climate Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh in November.

They reviewed the prominent roles of Egypt and France in the issues of environment and climate.
