Israel to investigate media reports on killing of Egyptian forces in Jerusalem during 1967 war: Presidency

CAIRO – 10 July 2022: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received on Sunday evening a phone call from Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, talking about what was reported in the Israeli press about an incident of killing and burying Egyptian soldiers in Jerusalem during the 1967 war, said Egyptian Presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady in a statement.

 

“It was agreed that the Israeli authorities would conduct a full and transparent investigation into what was reported in the Israeli press in connection with historical ‘facts’ that occurred in the 1967 war about the Egyptian soldiers buried in Jerusalem, with updating the Egyptian authorities on developments in the matter to reach the truth,” Rady said.

 

Firstly, the Israeli Prime Minister greeted President Sisi on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha, while the President congratulated Lapid on assuming the duties of his new position as a Prime Minister, Rady added.

 

As for the Palestinian cause, Rady said that the two leaders exchanged their views on the developments of the Palestinian issue, adding that it was agreed to work on arranging bilateral and multilateral meetings involving Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during the coming period to revitalize the peace negotiations.

 

The Israeli Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted under President Sisi’s leadership to achieve security, stability and cooperation in the region, Rady said.

 

 Also, President Sisi affirmed that Egypt will continue its efforts to achieve a comprehensive and just peace on the basis of the two-state solution and the references of international legitimacy, for cooperation and development for all the peoples of the region, Rady continued.

 

He added that President Sisi stressed the need for the continuation of the truce in the West Bank, and Gaza Strip, besides helping the Palestinian Authority in all fields, especially the economic one.
