Egyptian – European talks tackling Ukrainian crisis’ repercussions, combating terrorism

CAIRO – 28 June 2022: Egyptian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, the European Union, NATO and non-resident ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty has met with General Robert Brieger, Permanent Chair of the Military Committee of the European Union, where they discussed the existing bilateral cooperation.

 

The meeting was attended by the new Defense Attaché in Brussels, where the Egyptian ambassador congratulated him on him assuming his new position.

 

The meeting touched upon the great progress the bilateral relations between Egypt and European Union is witnessing at all political, strategic, economic, financial, scientific and cultural levels, especially in light of the President’s visit to Brussels last February and then the visit of the Chairperson of the Commission of the European Union to Cairo on June 15.

 

At the same time, there was the convening of the Association Council between Egypt and the European Union in Luxembourg that was held recently.

 

The Egyptian ambassador and Lieutenant-General Yereger exchanged views on the repercussions of the Ukrainian crisis on the global economy, especially with regard to global food security, and ways to confront these repercussions, given that Egypt is one of the countries in the world most affected by this crisis.

 

The meeting dealt with a number of regional and international files of interest to both sides, foremost of which is the file of combating terrorism and the great achievements that Egypt has achieved in this file.

 

The files of combating unregistered immigration were also dealt with during the meeting, and Egypt's great progress in this file was highlighted, especially as the country became a role model in the region in this regard.

 

During the meeting, General Brieger expressed his appreciation for the pivotal role played by Egypt to ensure the security and stability of the Middle East and Africa.

 

He further stressed the European Union's interest in further developing cooperation relations with partners in the southern Mediterranean, led by Egypt, in the areas of training and building human capacity.
