CAIRO – 26 June 2022: Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad headed for the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, to participate in the United Nations Ocean Conference 2022, due to convene from June 27 to July 1, said the Egyptian Ministry of Environment in a statement on Sunday.

Co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya and Portugal, the conference will convene under the slogan “Save our oceans, protect our future.”

Fouad confirmed that the conference aims to expand the scope of work on the protection of oceans based on science and innovation in order to implement Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14) "Life Under Water,” the statement said.

The Minister added that the conference comes at a critical time when the world is strengthening its efforts to mobilize, create and manage solutions to achieve SDG 14.

She added that the conference promotes much-needed innovative science-based solutions aimed at initiating a new chapter of global action for oceans in a way to address the threats of marine litter and pollution, illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, and loss of habitat and biodiversity, the statement continued.
