CAIRO – 21 June 2022: Egypt’s Top Prosecutor Hamada el-Sawy ordered late Monday the detention of Mohamed Adel, who is accused of premeditated murder of a student at Mansoura University, for four days pending investigations, according to a statement by the Public Prosecution.

Adel was caught on camera while killing his classmate Naira, slaughtering her with a knife, outside the university, leaving her soaked in blood on the street, while crowds of people were standing and some were trying to capture him.

The footage went viral, with floods of mourning and angry comments stormed social media platforms, calling for justice for victim Naira.

The killer was arrested shortly after the accident, and was investigated, where he acknowledged his crime. The weapon used in the crime was confiscated as well as all legal procedures.

The prosecution called upon users of social media to not circulate information or the video footage of the incident online.

The Public Prosecution, since it took over the investigations immediately after the accident, heard twenty witnesses, including the victim's parents, her sister, who said that the killer previously threatened the victim after she refused to engage to him. Her family held customary sessions and filed police reports against the man, who pledged not to harass her again.

The prosecution listened to 13 students and employees of the university, who confirmed that they saw the accused while committing the crime in the vicinity of the university.

Checking the body of the victim, the investigators found injuries to the neck, chest and other areas of her body.

The Public Prosecution has delegated the Forensic Medicine Department to sign the anatomical character on the victim’s body.
