CAIRO – 13 June 2022: Assistant minister of tourism and antiquities Abdel-Fattah Al-Assi said, Minday that all hotels that are under the supervision of the Tourism Ministry cannot prevent any ‘person or woman from entering them for any reason as long as the rooms are available.’

He added during a televised statement, that some hotels are working under the supervision of local administrations, and that all incidents that prevented single women from booking rooms were not under the supervision of the Ministry.

Assi comments came after Egyption Actress Nglaa Badr wrote on her social media account earlier this week that she was banned from entering a hotel for ‘being a single woman’ and that the hotel only accepts family guests.

“They told me that I came without my husband and therefore they cannot accept me’ Badr said during televised statements to al Hekaya talk show.

She said that the reservation was made by a company that was hosting an event and inviting her to participate in it, and that she arrived per the invitation and hotel booking for the night.

Badr, however was not the only incident that was banned from booking a room in a hotel for being ‘alone’ without a family or a man, especially in Alexandria governorate.

The government from the other hand has affirmed more than once that no hotel can ban a girl from booking room in it.
