CAIRO – 31 May 2022: Presidential Adviser for Health and Prevention Affairs Mohamed Awad Tageddin said Covid-19 has not ended yet, but very few infections were reported.

The vaccination of citizens with the third and fourth booster doses depends on the epidemiological situation in the phase to come, he said in televised remarks on Monday.

Coronavirus and seasonal influenza vaccines are more or less similar, Tageddin pointed out, adding vaccination grants protective immunity for a certain period of time, whose effect ends following six or nine months.

Several waves are spreading in many countries including China and North Korea, the adviser said, hoping Egypt will not face another wave.

Egypt succeeded in vaccinating its citizens with about 83 million shots against Covid-19, he said, adding several millions got the third booster shot and some citizens got only one dose.

He said the most commonly prioritized target populations for booster doses are older adults and immunocompromised individuals.
