CAIRO – 16 May 2022: Egypt hosts for the first time the works of the General Assembly of the Middle East Council of Churches in its twelfth session Monday.

 

The assembly is set to discuss all the issues of the Christians of the Middle East region, their challenges, their aspirations, and the strength of their presence in their unity.

 

The participants from the four ecclesiastical families of the council are set to develop a future vision that ensures the strengthening of the ecumenical spirit and the achievement of the urgent humanitarian and social goals for all the people of the region.

 

The General Assembly will be held for the first time in the Arab Republic of Egypt, hosted by the Coptic Orthodox Church, headed by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St.

 

The assembly will convene on Monday, and will conclude its works on Friday May 20th, and is set to release a final statement on the last day, which is expected to bring new hopes to Christians and all the people of the region.
