CAIRO – 13 July 2017: The Arab League (AL) called on member states to effectively regulate the process of blood transfusion and adopt a national strategy in this regard.

Also, the pan-Arab organization urged its members to develop a legislative framework to implement standards of the blood safety.

This came during a speech delivered by Head of the (AL)’s Health Department Counselor Saeed El Hadi to mark celebrations of the World Blood Donor Day 2017 (WBDD) in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Blood Transfusion Services.

The theme of this year’s World Blood Donor Day is “Blood connects us all”. It focuses on thanking blood donors and highlights the dimension of “sharing” and “connection” between blood donors and patients.

Arab states should coordinate all activities related to the collection, examination, processing, storage and distribution of blood, El Hadi said.

He asserted that the provision of safe blood is part and parcel of the national healthcare policy of each country.

The AL is keen to hold the WBDD celebrations at its HQ to raise awareness on the importance of blood donation, which contributes to saving the lives of millions of people
