CAIRO – 26 April 2022: Minister of Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Ati and Executive Secretary of the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) Rashid Mbaziira have discussed cooperation on the United Nations Climate Conference (COP27) next November in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh city.

In a meeting in Cairo, Abdel Ati and Mbaziira also discussed joint cooperation between the ministry and AMCOW on the ongoing preparations to hold the fifth Cairo Water Week (CWW) and the water pavilion set to be held as part of COP27, a statement by the Egyptian Irrigation Ministry said.

This comes while Egypt is prepared to assume the presidency of AMCOW, the entity in charge of the water file under the African Union, for the next session of 2023-2024 in appreciation of Egypt’s important role in Africa.

Abdel Ati and Mbaziira discussed cooperation on COP27 and CWW as they represent a golden opportunity to present the challenges of the African continent in the field of water, the statement said.

The Egyptian minister stressed the importance of ensuring that challenges related to the water sector get the required international attention, especially in African countries, and that the necessary funding to confront those challenges is provided.

The ministers reviewed the results of the talks underway with companies willing to work in the solid waste system in South Sinai with the aim of raising the efficiency of collection, transport, treatment and recycling of waste.
