CAIRO – 23 April 2022: At the Wadi Degla Reserve Visitor Center in Cairo Governorate, members of the National Bank of Egypt and the officials from Ministry of Environment celebrated the 52nd World Earth Day.

 

The world is celebrating Earth Day this year under the theme “Invest in Our Plant” as a way to accelerate the adaptation of solutions to climate change impacts. This year's celebrations aim at raising public awareness among people of their responsibility for protecting the environment.

This year theme emphasizes that the development work does not conflict with the protection of the environment and rather promoting it for a better life for all on the planet, said the Ministry in a statement on Saturday.

 

“This slogan comes amid an economic crisis that the world is going through to confirm that investing in the planet with protecting the environment and natural resources does not mean a decline in the overall economy of countries, but rather it is a protection for them and the human being,” said Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad.

“Investment and the environment are two sides of the same coin,” she added in her speech at the celebration.

 

“The slogan of Earth Day shed light on optimal investment of natural resources to reduce climate change impacts, at a time when Egypt is honored to host the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Climate Change on behalf of the African continent at the end of this year,” Fouad said.

She added that investing in natural protectorates aim at preserving biological diversity and limiting of climate change impacts.

 

Environmental issues are intertwined and its main goal is to educate people to protect the planet because they have no other choice, she continued, pointing out that simplest activities like rationalizing energy and water consumption, planting plants and trees, cycling or walking help protect the environment.

Celebrating Earth Day at Wadi Degla Protectorate aims to assimilate people into the environmental culture of preserving natural resources to support eco-tourism in Egypt.

 

“The Earth Day 2022 theme is focused on engaging the more than 1 billion people, governments, institutions, and businesses who participate in Earth Day to recognize our collective responsibility and to help accelerate the transition to an equitable, prosperous green economy for all,” the official website of the Earth Day says.

 

The goal of celebrating Earth Day is to overcome the obstacles associated with fossil fuel economy.
