CAIRO - 21 April 2022: The Alexandria Port Authority received the first American tractor supplied by the American company BRL, in order to pull the new Spanish air-conditioned trains supplied by the Talgo Company.

The shipment is among the tractors contracted with the Railway Authority. The first batch of the Spanish trains' vehicles arrived at the port a few days ago.

The Spanish carriages deal includes 7 trains worth 125.6 million euros to be supplied by the Spanish company Talgo, and each train consists of a tractor, a power wagon.

The carriages are equipped with a buffet car, 5 air-conditioned first-class cars and 8 air-conditioned second-class cars, as all new trains will include this installation of wagons and tractors.

The seven trains that will be imported by Talgo will include 105 wagons and 7 tractors. These vehicles are Spanish made by Talgo and the tractors are manufactured by the American company Progress Real Locomotive.

The new Spanish cars will be made of aluminum, which reduces their weight, and helps to save the train’s fuel consumption in the journey. Aluminium is also resistant to rust, and therefore does not corrode from the water used in the cleanliness and maintenance of trains, which extends the lifespan of such trains.

The new contracted trains have places designed for people with special needs, and each seat of the first air-conditioned carriages is equipped with a display screen to display film materials, in addition to the presence of central screens in the second-class air-conditioned carriages, and there will be surveillance cameras in those trains to secure the passengers.
