CAIRO – 11 April 2022: Praveen Agrawal, the resident representative of the United Nations World Food Program in Egypt, stressed that the Egyptian government “is an important strategic partner for the World Food Program by supporting the resources the program needs.”

“Egypt is one of the first countries that support developmental programs through debt swap programs,” Agrawal said.

He further added that "Egypt has a clear future vision and is well prepared for consultations, which was actually done recently with the governments of Italy and Germany.”

Agrawal also explained that the debt swap initiative has a double benefit in terms of projects that were carried out to support the most needy groups, in addition to the projects which are carried out within the framework of the debt swap initiative.”

The UN official added “we have benefited from the Corona pandemic, as we were able during this period to raise the amounts allocated to the World Food Program in Egypt without compromising the budget allocated to the program, and we have also devised new ways to deliver aid that are less costly and reach those who deserve it faster.”
