Historic Cairo regains its shiny glory as renovation works finalized

CAIRO – 5 April 2022: Cairo’s historic district of El-Hussein has witnessed major development works in conjunction with the implementation of the Historic Cairo Development Project.

 

Among the most prominent works that were implemented are the development and renovation of the Al-Hussein Mosque and the construction of a new courtyard for the mosque and a metal fence surrounding the mosque and the square.

The Hussein Mosque was opened for prayer on the second day of Ramadan after its restoration and renewal were completed.

 

The development work comes in implementation of the protocol signed between the Ministry of Endowments, the Ashraf Syndicate and the Mosques Foundation.

 

Al-Hussein Mosque is one of the most important Islamic mosques that is very special for Egyptians.

 

The development work in the Historic Cairo Project aims to restore the civilized splendor of the areas of Bab Al-Futuh, Al-Hakim Mosque, Al-Hussein and Darb Al-Labbana, Khan Al-Hussein handicrafts area, Al-Azhar Street and Bab Zuweila area.

 

These areas are being rehabilitated and revived, as the facades of buildings are restored, and a number of educational and cultural projects are set up, in addition to the construction of hotels in old ruins, a commercial market, car parking and a mechanical garage.
