CAIRO – 1 April 2022: Over the holy month of Ramadan and during Eid El Fitr holidays of 1443H/2022, all shops, malls, restaurants and cafes will be open for public until 2:00 a.m., said the Egyptian Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy in a statement on Friday.

Meanwhile, the takeaway and home delivery services of restaurants and cafés operate 24 hours a day, the ministry’s decision said. As for workshops at the residential blocks, they should close at 10:00 p.m. The decision excludes workshops on the roads and gas stations.

Grocery stores, supermarkets, bakeries and pharmacies are not subject to the aforementioned closure times. They run over the 24 hours daily.

Mahmoud Shaarawy directed the governors to apply the precautionary and preventive measures for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) to preserve the safety and health of citizens during the holy month of Ramadan.

After a two-Ramadan hiatus due to Covid-19, Cairo began receiving requests of holding Mawaid el-Rahman, or charity iftars, this Ramadan.

Big tables that have different types of foods are offered for free for anyone to join at the call of Maghrib prayer, announcing the time for Muslims to break their fasting. The guests are usually the poor or people who did not go home in time.
