CAIRO – 31 March 2022:  Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli affirmed the necessity of coordination among various ministries and bodies to develop Sharm El-Sheikh city and help it to be at its the best for hosting the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in November.

This comes in accordance with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives for ensuring the success of COP27, Madbouli said.

The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting he held on Thursday to follow up on the efforts being made to upgrade the Red Sea resort city in the presence of Yasser Essam and Tareq Sobhi, the chief development consultants.

During the meeting, the two consultants reviewed a thorough report about the studies conducted on different roads and squares, especially those leading up to Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport and the International Convention Center (SHICC).

Development works in the city are carried out in coordination with the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

Earlier in March, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, President-designate of UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (UNFCCC COP 27) had a telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez in a statement.

The call tackled the ongoing efforts in preparation for the upcoming COP session, which will be hosted and presided by Egypt this year, Hafez said.

"In this context, the UN Secretary-General affirmed the support of the United Nations system for Egyptian efforts in a manner that contributes to enhancing international action to combat climate change at all levels," he added.

The priority issues of climate action were also discussed during the call. The two sides also agreed to continue consultation and coordination in this regard during the coming period, Hafez continued.
