CAIRO – 12 July 2017: At the 48th meeting of the Arab Information Ministers Council, Egypt and the UAE were elected to be members of the new board of the Executive Office for the coming two years and Qatar was excluded.

The Council elected Saudi Arabia to be president of the board and Sudan to be deputy president.

The new formation of the board includes the Arab League Council Summit Troika, namely: Mauritania, Jordan and Saudi Arabia in addition to Sudan, Somalia and Iraq for two years.

Makram Mohammed Ahmed, chairman of the Egyptian Supreme Council for Media Regulation, said that the Qatari member insisted to vote in the election secretly.

The 48th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers held at the Arab League in Cairo tackled the role of Arab media in confronting terrorism and criticized a number of Arab media channels and outlets, especially the Qatari-owned Al Jazeera

During the opening of the 48th session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers held at the Arab League in Cairo, Bahraini Minister of Information Affairs Ali bin Mohammed al-Rumaihi said during his speech that “Qatar is taking the terrorism side on a regular base, and that it is not following any of the media ethics.”

“The Arab Information Ministers met earlier with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi who stressed the importance of media, and the important role it plays in forming the world’s awareness, especially during this very critical period that the Arab region is facing,” according to a presidential statement.
