CAIRO - 19 March 2022: Official sources at the Egyptian Ministry of Transport confirmed that the first batch of the new Spanish vehicles contracted with the Spanish company Talgo is expected to arrive next Monday.

The Spanish rail car deal includes the supply of six trains, worth 125.6 million euros, and each train consists of a tractor, a power wagon (the carriages are fed with air conditioning), a buffet car, 5 air-conditioned first-class cars and 8 air-conditioned second-class cars.

The 6 trains that will be imported by Talgo will include 90 cars and 6 tractors, including 30 first-class air-conditioned cars, 48 air-conditioned second-class cars, 6 power (powerful) cars, and 6 buffet cars.

The new wagons will be made of aluminum, which reduces their weight, and helps to save the train’s fuel consumption during the journey. It is also rust-resistant and therefore does not corrode from the water used in the cleanliness and maintenance of trains, which extends the life span of such trains.

The new contracted trains have places for people with special needs, and each seat of the first air-conditioned carriages is equipped with a display screen to display film materials, in addition to the presence of central screens in the second-class air-conditioned carriages, and there will be surveillance cameras in those trains to secure the passengers.
