CAIRO – 5 March 2022: Flag carrier EgyptAir and Air Cairo have operated flights to move Ukrainian tourists to Ukraine’s European neighboring countries free of charge, the Cabinet said on Saturday.

As per the decision, Egypt has so far transferred around 4,000 Ukrainian tourists to European states, Cabinet Spokesman Nader Saad said.

Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Egypt has extended the stay of the Ukrainian tourists in the Egyptian resorts free of charge, Saad said.

Russian and Ukrainian tourists have made up a majority of foreign visitors to Egypt over the past years. However, Egypt has expressed concerns over the crisis’s impact on tourism flow to the country.

In a statement earlier this month, the Ukrainian Embassy in Cairo hailed Egypt’s efforts in support of Ukraine, including voting in favor of a UNGA resolution demanding that Russia immediately end its military operations in Ukraine

“As always, Egypt supports the truth. Therefore, it was not surprising that Egypt - with all its status, civilization and wise leadership - denounced the unjustified brutal Russian aggression against Ukraine,” the embassy said in a statement on Thursday.

“As we appreciate this noble position of Egypt, we offer all the meanings of thanks and gratitude in all languages, besides [our] appreciation and gratitude to Egypt’s people, President and government,” the statement added.
