CAIRO – 23 February 2022: Egypt's Ministry of Health announced detecting 1,989 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, raising the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak in the country began to 473,449.

This is the first time for Egypt to detect a daily number of coronavirus cases below 2,000 since 28 January.

In a statement, the Spokesperson for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 51 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 23,857.

As many as 1,846 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 403,967 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt has so far administered 39,257,835 first coronavirus vaccine shots, 29,689,805 second shots, and 985,931 booster shots.

Earlier this week, Higher Education Minister and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced that Egypt produced over 30 million doses of the effective and safe Sinovac/VACSERA COVID-19 vaccine.

This is in addition to tens of millions of doses Egypt has imported of all types of the internationally recognized vaccines.

Chinese Ambassador in Cairo Liao Liqiang said his country has so far offered some 67 million doses of Chinese vaccines to Egypt, noting that an additional 60 million doses are planned to be delivered this year.
