CAIRO - 21 February 2022: Egypt’s Ministry of Endowment announced that last year rules that regulated performing the prayers and the Friday sermons during the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar during which the Muslims fast from dark to dawn, will be applied this year.

In light of confronting the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Taraweeh prayer would last for only 30 minutes following the evening prayer, the ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Opening women’s worshiping places is permissible provided that the supervisor woman shall abide by the implementation of the social distancing procedures, the ministry added.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers are kept to be performed in major mosques, the statement continued.

The holy month of Ramadan is due to start on April 2, 2022, and ends on May 2, 2022.
