CAIRO - 21 February 2022: Egypt's population will reach 103 million people on Tuesday domestically, by an increased rate of a child born every 20 seconds, said the state-owned Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) on Monday.

Over seven months, Egypt's population increased by one million as the census recorded 102 million people on July 5th, 2021, CAPMAS added in a statement.

The population is projected to reach 190 million by 2050 in the event of the current population growth, director of the Planning Ministry's demographic center Amira Tawadros warned in remarks to Al-Haqiqa TV program on August 3, 2021.

In a previous comment to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during the inauguration of the food industry city "Silo Foods" in Menufiya governorate, he said that 20 million people have been added to the population since 2010.

The construction of new housing units is closely associated with the increasing rate of population in Egypt, President Sisi said, adding “the development national projects would have been better if we had not had these increasing population rates.”

Also, during the inaugural ceremony of a number of housing unit projects as part of the state’s program of eradicating slum areas nationwide in October 2021, President Sisi said that the construction of new housing units is closely associated with the increasing rate of population in Egypt.
