Egypt reports 2,179 new coronavirus cases, 61 fatalities

CAIRO - 12 February 2022: The Health Ministry said Friday night that 2,179 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed infections since the outbreak in the country began to 450,676.


In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said 61 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 23,233.

As many as 2,121 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 384,158 so far, the spokesman said.

The recovery rate from the coronavirus (COVID-19) at Egyptian isolation hospitals reached  85.1 percent, after receiving the necessary medical care according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), said the Ministry of Health in a statement on Feb. 10.

Last month, the Cairo International Airport received 4 million coronavirus vaccine doses from the United Kingdom, British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley said on Friday.

This is the largest vaccine shipment ever from the UK on the bilateral level between Europe and Africa, Bayley said, affirming that “no one is safe until everyone is safe”.
